Organic Gardens

I'm interested in your Actively Aerated Compost Tea. I used unamended topsoil for my California Native Plant garden. I was thinking that the Tea would help improve the disturbed soil. Would you recommend it for native plants, and if so, how much would I use?

Having a diverse soil food web is important to native plants. Applying Actively Aerated Compost Tea to the root zone of your plants will bring in the foundation builders of the soil food web. Nutrient cycling will start up once the soil food web is established. The organisms will provide the plants what they need when they need it. The best times of year to apply AACT are fall, winter and spring in our climate. You will also need to provide food for organisms; this is really no more than the organic matter that falls to the ground and a layer of mulch such as Wood Chips.

Application rate is 1 gallon per 100 square feet; apply to the root of your plants. It is ideal to apply after the first rain or the day after watering. Having some moisture in the root zone when you apply the tea is helpful in getting the organisms down to the root zone.

If you would like to be on our email AACT notification list let me know. We will start up brewing again in September.
