2018 Thinking with Your Hands: Circular Seat Enclosure

Our infamous Thinking with Your Hands workshop is back once again! Mark your calendars for our upcoming workshop dates: Saturday, February 10th and Sunday, February 11th of 2018

It’s not as easy as people may think to build a proper dry-stone wall, one that looks good and will stay up for a lifetime! It’s worth learning how to stack stones properly to be able to make beautiful permanent landscape features like walls and arches. Besides, it’s way more fun than having someone else do it for you! Students wishing to learn about dry laid construction with real stones are encouraged to attend John Shaw-Rimmington’s workshop.

John Shaw-Rimmington is a professional “waller” and a landscape design consultant. John has instructed courses in walling and created stunning art and impres-sive installations – garden features including arches and follies, such as ha-has and faux ruins from California and British Columbia to Vermont and Newfoundland. He also writes a lively daily instructional blog in ‘walls without mortar’ called Thinking with My Hands. He recently published a new book called How to Build Dry-Stacked Stone Walls, available at LYNGSØ and on Amazon.com

In this year’s workshop John plans to teach how to build an unusual dry laid circular seat enclosure using local stone provided by Lyngso. Within the bench, there will be small arch openings for each of the students to build. This workshop is essentially a beginner course but with the opportunity to get creative once the student becomes familiar with the three basic principles of dry stone wall construction: batter, hearting and bonding.

Students should come prepared for one hour of indoor class time both days as well as 6 hours of hands on professional instruction working with various kinds of stone. Wear proper clothing and bring safety glasses. Lunches are provided.

Saturday February 10, 2018 - 09:00 AM to 04:00:PM (and)

Sunday February 11, 2018 - 09:00:AM to 04:00:PM

COST: $390.00

WORKSHOP FEE IS NONREFUNDABLE.
